You won’t believe what Ivanka Trump just did.

Background:

From the moment Donald Trump glided down that escalator at Trump Tower on June 16, 2015, to announce his candidacy for President of the United States, he has found himself under constant media scrutiny and criticism. Every decision he has made, every thing he has said, has been magnified and inspected under the microscope of public opinion. And, for the most part, the mainstream media has realized that he has different values than they do, and has decided to oppose him.

This meant that since the early days of the campaign, the mainstream media has put its hopes on Ivanka Trump. The mainstream media, whether rightly or not, perceived Ivanka to be a more level headed thinker. Someone who has a history of supporting and donating to Liberal causes, and therefore they kept convincing themselves that secretly Ivanka would push their liberal values from the inside.

Whenever Trump said or proposed something controversial that the mainstream media and Democrats didn’t agree with, the response was always the same, Ivanka will save us and convince her father not to do this. This sentiment was only magnified when the NY Times reported in early February that Ivanka had convinced her father not to sign an executive order that would have “scrapped Obama-era L.G.B.T. protections, according to people familiar with the issue.”

This report seemed to confirm to many in the mainstream media that Ivanks was a moderating influence on the President, and they, therefore, began to expect Ivanka to make sure that Liberal policies from the previous administration were kept.

What’s Happening Now:

The mainstream media found themselves in a little bit of a bind when it turns out Ivanka wasn’t who they hoped. Throughout May, there had been rumors that the Trump administration was debating whether to withdraw the United States from the landmark Paris Climate Accords. Of course, the mainstream media just assumed that Ivanka would make sure that this didn’t happen. However, their hopes and assumptions would soon be dashed when on June 1st, 2017, President Trump gave a speech from the Rose Garden announcing that the US would indeed withdraw.

In the aftermath of this decision, the mainstream media turned on Ivanka, criticizing her for not being able to stop the withdrawal. They accused her of faking believe in some liberal social causes, but in reality, not caring at all. This criticism, which has continued off and on for almost two months, came back with a vengeance recently when President Trump announced over Twitter that he was banning transgender people from serving in the military. All of a sudden, the same criticisms of her were back. They claimed that because she didn’t drag her father along, it was her fault that he banned transgender troops.

However, it seems Ivanka has finally had enough.

According to the Daily Caller:

“Ivanka Trump doesn’t want liberals to expect much of her, according to a Politico report published Sunday night.

The report says that Ivanka “desperately wants to lower expectations of what she can achieve in an administration where she views herself as one person on a large team.”

Ivanka wanting to lower people’s expectations of her is no surprise. Who would want to be held accountable for every decision that liberals even slightly don’t like, especially if you have no actual power to do anything about them?

However, just because she doesn’t have direct power does not mean that Ivanka does not have certain issues that she is prioritizing and advocating for.

As the Daily Caller explains:

“Ivanka wants to focus on a child care tax credit being included in tax reform legislation, paid family leave within a budget, and a World Bank Fund she helped design to benefit female entrepreneurs.

She has reportedly told allies that she wants to be judged on these issues and not on a broad range of liberal concerns.”

It makes total sense that Ivanka wants to focus on only a few issues. As everyone knows, one can only do so many things at once.
